Al-QaedaIntroductionAl Qaeda is a terrorist organization founded in Peshawar, Pakistan, between 1988 or 1989 by Osama bin Laden and his teacher Abullah Yusuf Azzam. Al-Qaeda is an international terrorist network considered the primary terrorist threat to the United States. Al Qaeda is trying to get rid of all Westerners from Muslim territory and replace its own Islamic regime. They are a group of people working to come together to plan an act of terrorism against Muslims and non-Muslims, particularly in the United States. Al Qaeda believes they are fighting a holy war against the enemies of their religion. People from many countries have joined this group, including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Great Britain. This article will present a brief historical background of Al Qaeda and how it emerged with their ideology, vision, beliefs and goals that they have and also presents the activities that this group carried out before and after the very massive attack that they had. in the United States on September 11, 2001 and the international responses to this act of violence. Finally this article will end by comparing this Organization (Al Qaeda) with Reverend Mike Bray, the Christian terrorist. Historical Background of Al Qaeda Al Qaeda is led by Osama bin Laden who was born and raised in Saudi Arabia; his family was very wealthy and respected by the Saudi royal family and the public. Once he finishes his university in Saudi Arabia, he becomes an extremely religious person. Osama started to help the Islamic movement against the communists in Yemen (Gunaratna, 2005). In December 1997, when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, he went to Pakistan and then Afghanistan to help the Afghan group protect it from the Soviet Union.
