“A Life Changing Event” There are many events that stand out in my life that have been significant and have helped me become stronger. One of these events particularly stands out to me and has had the greatest impact on my life. When I was in high school my attention was never paid to studies but only to sports and having fun with my friends. I never paid attention for more than five seconds and failed to complete any work assigned to me. My lack of focus on high school led me to attend a four-year college, play a college sport, and take remedial classes. First of all, when grades are low, it is extremely difficult to get into a four-year college. During all of my forty-five minute lessons I would sit and doodle, tell jokes, and just try to distract everyone else from the education. I found every way to get into trouble and my grades basically reflected that. At most four-year colleges you must have at least a 3.0 GPA. In my case my GPA was so low that the options weren't even there. I was destined for community college but didn't want to admit it, so I kept doing what I was doing, failing. Additionally, especially at all four-year universities you must take the SATs and receive the required grade. I signed up for the SATs and paid for them, but I didn't show up because I decided that going to the beach with my friends was much more important to me. Even four-year colleges want to see that you've been involved in extra-circular activities and clubs. I had no problem playing sports, but when it came to any type of club I absolutely didn't want to be a part of it. Colleges also have access to your disciplinary records and any issues you may have had, needless to say my disciplinary records took up some filing cabinet…half of paper…I would have meant business. I am now completing all of these classes and more so that I can leave BCC as soon as possible to attend a four-year college. The whole high school experience for me was one of the best times of my life, but it didn't turn out the way I had hoped it would. I had fun whenever I could and for me it's always like that, it's just how I am. I like to live my life in the moment and get the most enjoyment out of everything I do. I guess you could say I've changed that mindset a little, now I pay a lot more attention and push myself to do better academically. If I had the choice to go back and change things in high school, I honestly wouldn't. There are many memories, good or bad, that will last a lifetime. Now that I'm taking credit courses, I pay attention, take notes, and test well. I think I will end up doing very well and achieving my goal of getting out of BCC.
