Modern society and order have polluted the contemporary mind. Violent repression is used to distance society from our archaic heritage. This inheritance includes ingesting chemical compounds to enter trance states for self-transcendence. Modernity in our society is defined by alienation, consumerism and a class struggle endemic only in the Western world. The healing powers of shamanism can help “cure” these endemic problems that emerge with modernity. The modern shaman can play a huge role in helping people better understand themselves through “healing” rituals. Modern shamanism can help people deal with addictions, psychological disorders and fears. The sole purpose of shamanism is to heal by helping others achieve altered levels of consciousness. This altered state will help individuals better understand themselves and the life they live. Alienation has a direct correlation with modernity, especially as it pertains to a modern capitalist society. Karl Marx comments on James Mills by stating: “My work would be a free manifestation of life, therefore an enjoyment of life. Assuming private property, my work is an alienation of life, since I work to live, to procure the means of life. My work is not my life." (http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1844/james-mill/index.htm#084) Karl Marx is illustrating that by working for wealthy capitalists, the everyday worker is limiting himself. They are abiding by the rules set by that capitalist and... middle of paper... to awaken our minds to reality, which is exactly what the government fears. The New World Order has polluted the world. contemporary mind. The use of plants and drugs to produce visions has been part of our archaic history for some time. However, society is slowly moving away from this story. Alienation, consumerism and class struggles define our modern society. To “cure” these endemic problems we should return to our archaic heritage. Shamanism can help heal these problems by helping people better understand themselves through healing rituals. Addictions, psychological disorders and fears can be cured with Shamanism. The healing powers of shamanism are achieved by helping individuals grasp altered levels of consciousness. Shamanism is the cure that modernity needs to help individuals face the realities of life by awakening them to the world around them..
