Sadiqa RezaNew TestamentFebruary 19, 2014Jesus CharterIntroduction to JesusChristianity was founded on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, born by a miracle to a devout woman Jewish woman named Maria. Jesus means “savior” and the title Christ means “the anointed one.” Jesus was a real historical figure, and the Western calendar is made based on the birth of Jesus. The abbreviation "AD" stands for the Latin anno domini, "in the year of our Lord." And "BC" "Before Christ", which occurred a few years before the birth of Christ. The details of Jesus' life are recorded in the four gospel accounts written by the apostles closest to Jesus within a decade of Jesus' life. Some information also comes from second-hand sources such as Christian, Roman, Jewish, and 2nd-century Gnostic sources. Birth and Early Life of Jesus There is not much information regarding the first thirty years of Jesus' life, except that he was born in Bethlehem into a devout Jewish family. His mother Mary conceived Jesus by miracle of the Holy Spirit according to the Gospel of Matthew and Luke. This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah happened: his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they were united, she found herself pregnant by the work of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 21:18) Jesus lived a traditional life into his adulthood and worked with his father as a carpenter. The only information found about his childhood is in the Gospel of Luke where Jesus goes away to Jerusalem and is found in a temple by his parents to whom he says: "Did you not know that I would be in my Father's house?" (Luke 2:49) The life of Jesus was described in detail in the Gospels as he began his public ministry and the manifestation of his miracles at the age of thirty after... middle of paper... cause marks the end of his earthly ministry. This was the end of his human accomplishments that his Father had planned for him. With the ascension of Jesus, the disciples witnessed His heavenly glory which is written in the Scriptures as approved until the end of the world. Jesus was exalted to heaven because his Father was pleased with his successes and would now honor Jesus with a name above all names. This also indicated the beginning of his new role as Lord and mediator of the new covenant. Christians believe that the Lord Jesus is currently in heaven. He sits in a glorious position of honor and authority as his father's right-hand man. (Psalm 110:1; Ephesians 1:20; Hebrews 8:1). Christ is the Head of the Church (Colossians 1:18), the giver of spiritual gifts (Ephesians 4:7-8), and the Finisher of all in all (Ephesians 4:9-10)..
