Topic > Theories of Homosexuality - 1340

Homosexual is a romantic attraction that occurs between two people of the same sex. This is the resistance model with the goal of experiencing sexual, emotional and romantic attractions exclusively between similar genders. This is one of the three main categories of sexual orientation in sex. There have been many questions and concerns regarding the issue of homosexuality. In every society, the homosexual has always been considered evil and impious (Connors 2007). It is also considered something extraordinary which is practiced only by a certain section of people. For this reason there is a lot of discussion about homosexuality and this also includes a number of theories. These researchers are called upon to explain the cause and origin of homosexuality in both men and women. One of the famous theories put forward about homosexuality are the theories of Freud and Jung. This essay introduces theories of homosexuality as they were discussed by Freud and Jung. Additionally, I will compare and contrast Freud and Jung's theories on sexual orientation in women. In particular, what factors lead women to become homosexual? Freud has numerous known theories which all describe unconsciousness, the human defense mechanism, the clinical conversation between patients and psychoanalyst, and most importantly, he discussed sexual desire. He explained sexual desire as the key motivating energy for human beings and discussed its scope. On the same topic of sexual desire, Freud also discussed homosexuality and how it is acquired (Freud's View of Homosexuality, 2013). Sigmund Freud discussed the concept of homosexuality as deterministic. According to Feud, humans are born with an unfocused sexual lust... middle of paper... homosexuality in women stems from a person's unconscious mind. Furthermore, Freud believes that the homosexual cannot be converted into a heterosexual once developed. On the other hand, Jung presents his arguments based on the idea that homosexuality is caused by spirits. This is because homosexuals are believed to have both a male and female soul. These spirits are the ones that push an individual to be attracted to a person of the same sex. Therefore, Jung presents his theory from the biblical point of view and for him Freud's idea that homosexuality is caused by the interaction between the environment and the unconscious mind is not true. This is why he goes ahead to dispute the works and evidence discussed by Freud in the theories. However, of both theories, Freud is more convinced and presents his arguments in a professional manner.
