This report focuses on the manufacturing processes involved in producing crankshafts at Bharat Forge. The two main production processes used by the company to make crankshafts are forging and machining. The function of a crankshaft is to convert the reciprocating motion of the linear piston into rotary motion. The basic parts of a crankshaft are the shaft, crankpin and counterweights. The crankshaft is usually made of steel. Monolithic means that the company produces one-piece crankshafts. When customers place orders with the company, the details and specifications of the crankshafts go to the company's manufacturing and planning department. This department then takes the help of Bharat Forge's design department in making the respective molds as per the specifications of the clients. Both open-die and closed-die forging are used in the company for the production of monolithic crankshafts.
