“You have to be poor to know the luxury of living” (Bartas). Poverty is a term used to identify lack of income. Nowadays, however, a more convenient term for the universal clause is "absolute poverty". This term recognizes the extreme shortage of basic life resources; food, shelter and water. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die of famine every day. Furthermore, recent research has shown that over 3 billion humans on earth live on less than $2.50 a day. Since half of the world's population is considered poor, a new comprehensive poverty study is clearly a critical necessity. The best way to seek a comprehensive solution to the growing level of poverty is to study the causes of poverty, its various effects on society and any solutions currently implemented or suggested. In an attempt to find an inclusive solution to poverty, it is mandatory to primarily identify the causal factors. First of all the causes of poverty is the unequal sharing of resources. In most countries, about 20% of the population controls most of the land and wealth, while the remaining 80% get very few resources that do not meet their needs. Another main cause of poverty is the birth of adolescence. According to various studies, girls' lack of education leads to higher teenage birth rates. This in turn overburdens an already economically strained community, exacerbating the situation. A third cause of poverty is low wages, compared to the increase in prices of basic necessities. As a result, in most developing countries the middle class is disappearing and joining the poorest population. Millions of people live with hunger because they simply cannot afford to buy food (Jackley). Poverty will continue to have more and more causes if not... middle of paper... overty. For the moment and until a global agreement is reached, the best solution is to resume and develop structured plans to limit poverty. Poverty is a growing beast that will eventually reach those at the mountaintops. So, if the world takes no serious action, not only will the poor be victims of the rich, but the rich will soon be violently victimized by the poor. “Poverty is the worst form of violence” (Ghandi).Works citedBartas, Guillaume. “Quotes on Poverty.” The best quotes and poems.
