CLIENT RELATED SCHOOL BASED PHYSICAL THERAPY CONSULTATION ACTIVITY The purpose of this document: The purpose of this document is to explain the role of the physical therapist in a school in providing services indirect (services that are not directed at the children in the school) to teachers, parents, school teaching staff, doctors or any other service provider.1 School physiotherapists consult and instruct them to help improve the child's physical environment, implement program planning, procure assistive devices, develop modifications and accommodations for successful access and participation. 1 They also help integrate interventions and recommendations into the child's environment. 1 PTs also collaborate with other team members to facilitate wellbeing issues and disability awareness for the entire school population. 1Client-related consultation by Physiotherapist Practice Guide: According to Physiotherapist Practice Guide 2, client-related consultation is a service provided by the physiotherapist where the service is not directly related to patient care and is provided at the request of a single person, any business, school, government agency or other organization. 2 School Physical Therapy: School physical therapy is provided as a related service, i.e., an Individualized Education Program (IEP) designated service. 1 It was initiated so that the student with exceptional educational needs can benefit from their special education program or access education in the least restricted environment. 1Roles of School Physiotherapy: • Physiotherapists work collaboratively with school staff to determine and implement educationally relevant services. 3,9,10 Contribute to development, implementation...... middle of document ......02/NC01001905/Centricity/Domain/1574/Physical%20Therapist%20Evaluation%20Process%20Guide%20-% 20updated %20July%202013.pdf.
