Angels in America is the story of two different couples, but at the same time somewhat similar. The main difference between the couples is that one is gay (Louis Ironson and his lover Prior Walter), and the other traditional (Joe Pitt and his wife Harper). The story is quite simple, it is about ordinary people, but it makes people feel a mystical atmosphere, skillfully connected with realism. As a "fantasy", Angels in America represents a major departure from prevailing theatrical realism, with deviations into the religious and supernatural: angels, ghosts, apparitions, and visions appear again and again. The show is a fantastic combination of real life situation and mystical figures, which help the heroes understand the true values ​​of life. After Lois's grandmother dies, her partner tells her that she is suffering from a very serious disease: AIDS. Therefore, Prior is in a panic and doesn't know what to do. Lois is not ready to support Prior, due to the constant feeling of fear and the inability to hope for a better future. Around the same time, in the other family, Joe Pitt gets the job at the Justice Department, with the help of his friend. The first mysterious thing in the work, in my opinion, is the meeting of the main characters. It seems impossible that such different people could somehow connect, yet Lois meets Joe at work and tries to befriend him, suspecting that he is gay. The second mystical element in the work is the meeting of Harper and Prior: they meet in a dream, where Prior tells the woman that her husband is a closeted homosexual. Here realism and the mystical side of life are shown as a whole. Soon, Joe's friend Roy discovers that he also suffers from AIDS, but denies it, because...... middle of paper... ...n Francisco earthquake, and they have been alone ever since. Angels need constant sexual activity, and people are always trying to change something, so angels cannot live. What is significant in the information, the angel says, is quite revolutionary, because it talks about sexuality, while religion usually does not pay attention to this aspect of life. In the end Priore helps the angels, but they say that they cannot give him any more life, only when the God has returned can they ask him to do so. After returning to Earth, Prior tells Louis that he loves him. In the epilogue we see Prior saying that AIDS has killed many people, but he is still alive. So, we can see that the angels really helped him and gave him more time to live on earth. Therefore, we can see that people should always pay attention to real feelings and be faithful to the people they love.
