Topic > The student is the most extraordinary - 1340

Teachers will always have a student in class who is very disruptive, doesn't do well in class, and acts like he doesn't care about the grade. Some teachers will think that this child cannot be changed and simply want him out of the classroom. Other teachers will see this student as a gift. Once you delve into that student's background and talk to him or her face to face, you may see that the student is behaving that way for a certain reason. Teachers who see these students as much more than “problem children” are the most remarkable. The young man I chose to build bridges with is Mr. N. He is a 15 year old African American with a GPA of 1.78. Mr. N received 6.8 out of 8 credits last year. Mr. N.'s personality type should be an extrovert. I would say he is an extrovert because he is a social butterfly. The reason I chose this particular student is because he has very high potential, a great high school program, but he doesn't have the drive he really needs. Unfortunately, I was unable to get any background information from this student. During the lesson, Mrs. Pendleton asks the student to repeat the word or phrase after her, several times during the lesson. The class knows how to do it when they say "Repeat" in French. It also has students work with partners conversing about what students have just learned, in French. During all this time, Mr. N. spends it with his head down, talking loudly to himself, disturbing other students or shouting useless things. When the teacher asks Mr. N. to cooperate with her, he disrespects her by responding. When Mr. N. does this, Mrs. Pendleton will try to redirect him. To redirect him, try to be his partner instead. This sti...... half of the paper ......actions, determining their advantages and disadvantages. 9) Adopt a strategy. 10) When you take action, monitor the implications of your actions. I believe that if I used these 10 strategies, it would not only help me help the student, but it would also teach me to become a better teacher. Making sure you dedicate extra time to students who really need a positive boost is extremely important. If you find elements to combine in the lesson that interest the student, stay on top of what's going on in their life, and establish strict rules throughout the class, this will hopefully help your student become a more effective learner. I wish I had more time in class to gain more information about my student and to test my bridge-building approaches with him. I want to take the teaching styles I learned in this lesson and apply them to my classroom.
