Solutions to Note Taking Problems for StudentsBy:Timothy Cooks3/12/2013Learning Challenge/Solution ProjectDr. Samuelson Note taking is a process that involves transcribing information received from another source, such as a professor or boss. Taking notes provides the user with reference material to use for future use. Taking notes is one of the most important and useful study skills to have in college. Students should expect to take a lot of notes in college. Professors expect their students to take notes during class and then review them at home alone or with other classmates. Note taking is a skill, so to make it efficient, we need to develop more techniques to make note taking more profitable. Chapter 6 of our textbooks provides us with many note-taking techniques to improve our note-taking skills. But before that, let's point out that note-taking has two basic functions that note-taking serves. Taking notes serves as a way to help you memorize or codify material and a way to keep information in written form until you need it for future reference (Pintrich & VanderStoep, 137). Chapter 6 serves as a good guide to introduce students to strategies for effective note taking. The focus of the chapter is on strategies rather than style to help us think about the note-taking process while in class. Before we start taking notes we should ask ourselves these questions: what should I pay attention to? What should I write? How should I organize my notes? We are now in the beginning stages of improving the note-taking process (Pintrich & VanderStoep, 137). This will help you stay organized while taking notes. Remember that beautiful note......middle sheet......es. As a result, my scores on quizzes and exams increased significantly. When I got into anatomy I used the same method more but I needed to incorporate more techniques like comparing notes with other students in my class because we had less instruction from the professor. Exchanging notes with other students helped me not to fall behind or miss important information. In my current semester I have learned more techniques and methods to include in what I already know. The results are satisfactory and potentially allow me to have excellent grades. I have learned that it is beneficial for every student to become a good note taker because it is necessary for successful studying and research. I advise anyone reading this to become proficient at taking notes for one main reason which is to remember important information such as dates, times, key points or facts.
