Hyperion To A Satyr by Aldous Huxley Since the beginning of humanity's intellectual evolution, we have felt the need to separate ourselves from others who we deem pathetic, smelly and dirty. This separation results in two different social groups, the upper class and the lower class. Between these two groups is the great gulf that separates us, the gulf that, according to Huxley's "Hyperion To A Satyr", prevents human beings from achieving the brotherly love we need to find our "Hyperion" , or place of perfection. As we humans progress and become more technologically advanced, are we going in the right direction to reach our “Hyperion”? In this article, I will examine Aldous Huxley's "Hyperion To A Satyr" in its entirety to give a general understanding behind my thinking. discussion. Then, using metaphor analysis, I will isolate metaphors within the writing that relate to my research question, separate them into different categories based on their content, and then discuss them in detail. I will therefore focus on a single metaphor to clearly answer whether we are going in the right direction or not. “Hyperion To A Satyr” is an essay by Huxley that focuses on the involvement of filth and stench in the history of human existence, and the separations that result from it. they were the roots of our society. Early in the essay, Huxley writes about a time when he was on a beach and came across thousands of condoms scattered across the sand, deposited in a sewage drain not far from the beach. The essay then travels back to when filth was a normal and expected part of society. Even with this belief, segregation occurred between those who felt less smelly and those who were considered lice. As time passed, humans…half of paper…made it necessary. So I argue that we humans are not moving away from or towards our "Hyperion", but in fact we are not moving at all. Throughout history, every progress made to bridge the “great chasm” and unite human beings has been countered by the creation of another separation that has only widened the gap in another area. And the end effect of all this is to walk in a great circle, giving many the sensation of forward movement towards "Hyperion", only they are too blind to notice that they occasionally return to the starting point. Human beings are currently stuck in a vicious cycle from which we cannot escape, given our current habits and opinions. We have come to a point where we must not only advance technology, but also advance ourselves to be better people. Only then will we all be on the road, headed in the right direction, towards "Hyperion".".
