Love can exist in many forms; However, there is a manifestation of love that seems to have fascinated humanity since the dawn of history. This is the love that two people share when they "fall in love," the love that today is most frequently described as passionate or romantic love. In this sense, love occupies a special place in human history. It has always been a universal concern. It may be that the madness of lovers is part of the human condition. The connection between love and states of illness and madness has existed since ancient times. Love, in fact, is an illness that leads to numerous psychological and physical disorders. First of all, the mind is the first victim of love. The main function of the mind is to control the body, feelings and thoughts. Mental disorders can cause serious mental conditions ranging from depression to suicide. Therefore, love puts people at greater risk of fear, anger, and, in extreme cases, death. According to the principles of Hippocratic medicine, passionate love almost invariably turns into "love melancholy", a form of depression. Furthermore, anyone who has experienced falling in love will know something about the love sickness: an emotional roller coaster that seems to transport the occupant between the two extremes of heaven and hell (Paul, 1993, p. 91). Even a superficial examination of artistic works on the theme of love will reveal a striking duality. Love is rarely described as a completely pleasant experience. Additionally, psychiatry recognizes abnormally elevated mood in the form of mania. Lovesickness and the anguish of rejection, however, can lead to anguish and real suffering, both mental and physical. If love is a disease then maybe it has a cure. However, the wounds of love are only healed by the one who caused them.
