Is multiculturalism a necessity or a threat? To give a reasonable answer to this question we must first define multiculturalism. According to the website of the Australian Collaboration of National Community Organizations "multiculturalism embodies an ethic of acceptance and respect of cultural diversity, community harmony and inclusion". There is no doubt that in an increasingly global world, multiculturalism is a necessity. People must learn to respect and tolerate what is different. As for multi-ethnic nations like the United States, Canada or Australia, I believe that multiculturalism is a necessity. These countries must develop inclusive policies to peacefully welcome all their citizens. On the other hand, there are people who think that multiculturalism can create “national disunity” and “questionable loyalties” on the part of minorities or immigrants.
