Not only is fast food a major cause of death for a large number of people, but these people generally know what they are doing to themselves. People know that fast food is bad for them, nutritionally and monetarily, but they continue to buy and eat it anyway. As adults, it's time for people to take responsibility for their actions and take control of their lives. By eliminating fast food from your diet, you can not only save hundreds of dollars each year, but you can also lose weight, thereby decreasing your risk of dying unnecessarily early. Obesity is the second leading cause of death in the United States, right after smoking, which is very alarming because the two things that kill the most people in America are preventable (Schlosser, 2005). Obese people cause themselves a number of preventable difficulties by eating fast food, but are unable to stop eating it due to its addictive nature (Brownell, 2004). Not only does fast food have no nutritional value, it does more harm than good (Carmona, 2007). After people get their fill of fast food, two hours later they are starving again, which leads them to crave more fast food. This is a vicious cycle in America that must be broken soon, because as the number of overweight and obese people increases, so does the number of people dying needlessly and prematurely from the effects of fast food.
