Technology used in law enforcement improves the ability of law enforcement organizations to function because it has improved police databases, reporting, monitoring, and forensic analysis (DOJ, 2004). Additionally, a less lethal weapon is designed to disable, capture, or immobilize a suspect without killing him. However, deaths occasionally occur from less lethal weapons which include kinetic energy, electric, acoustic and chemical weapons. Additionally, violence, disease, and infected evidence are dangers that law enforcement faces today. Police databases and crime reports have been enhanced by technology and have improved the ability of law enforcement to function. One type of police database is a fingerprint database that allows forensic teams to compare fingerprints found at the crime scene to fingerprints in the system. Another type of police database is a crime database that shows people arrested and convicted of various crimes. These databases allow for easier tracking of crimes and identification of potential suspects. Crime reporting has been improved through technology through databases and software. This technology makes report writing efficient and less time consuming. Therefore, police databases and crime reports have been enhanced by technology and have improved the ability of law enforcement to function. Global positioning systems and forensics have also been enhanced by technology and have improved the ability of law enforcement to function. GPS devices in law enforcement cars allow officers to enter addresses when calls come in. For example, instead of searching in the dark or trying to memorize an entire city, officers can get driving directions from the GPS unit. These... half of the paper... are exposed to violent scenarios. Additionally, to combat the threat of infectious disease among law enforcement officers, the federal Bloodborne Pathogens Act was established in 1991. The law requires that law enforcement officers receive adequate training on how to prevent contamination from blood-borne infectious agents and undergo an annual refresher course on the topic (Schmalleger, 2011). Therefore, police organizations address these dangers by adopting policies and procedures. To conclude, the technology used in policing improves the ability of law enforcement to function because it has improved police databases, reporting, tracking, and forensic analysis. Additionally, less lethal weapons include kinetic energy, electric, acoustic, and chemical weapons. In conclusion, violence, disease and infected evidence are the dangers facing law enforcement today.
