The mass media has played and will continue to play a significant role in how African American women and men are represented. When you watch a TV show with people of color, how are they viewed? They are usually the ones who are violent, use or deal illegal substances, or just commit illegal crimes in general. The media has created a bad name for African-Americans by televising the “stereotypical behaviors” of blacks. Black people have come a long way to earn some respect in the world; and what these reality television programs are doing to us is tearing down everything we have earned. According to the article “Images of Black Males in Popular Media” by Darren Smith, he described that black men are characterized by many terms. They are described as abusive, crass, lazy, short-tempered, violent and “dead fathers on the talk shows “Maury and Jerry Springer” According to the article cited above, Maury's show is the perfect example of shows that depict negative images of Africans. American men because it shows that black men cannot commit to just one woman, cannot pay child support because they believe they are not the father of the child, and paint themselves as some sort of "gangster". They are not only embarrassing those Black men who work hard for what they have achieved and care for the children they create, but they are embarrassing themselves and proving that the "stereotypes" of Black men are true on national television a show that portrays men as they should without having to think deserves an award. It's hard to make a show that's exclusively about well-educated, athletic, or financially stable black men. reality show... in the middle of the newspaper... on television she plays the character of the "noisy girl from the ghetto". Based on recent popular TV shows such as "Bad girls Club, Love and Hip Hop, Mob Wives". , and Basketball Wives” it's hard for people not to believe the stereotypes about African-American women or just women in general. Bad Girls Club is a popular TV show broadcast on Oxygen where 7 girls sign up to live in a mansion together and all they do is fight, drink, party and take part in sexual activities. Then there is Basketball Wives which is about a group of girls who are married or were previously married to basketball stars. On the basketball wives, each episode features discussions about "house saboteurs" and shows fights between all of them. This is not setting a great example for kids, they are making it seem like it's okay to fight, smoke, drink and have lots of sexual partners.
