Introduction In our society today, the media is one of the most influential mediums present among young Americans between the ages of 8 and 18. Children spend about seven and a half hours a day consuming media in some way, not including texting and talking on the phone. This also doesn't include the time they spend multitasking between media sources. Tamar Lewin's article is directly linked to the results provided by the research with the aim of making them objectively public. Children spend more time engaged in media than they do with any other activity, demonstrated by children's ability to multitask and the idea that media has become part of their environment. Purpose of the News Article and Adaptation to the Study The effects that media can have on children are impactful, which has created opportunities for many studies aimed at determining the amount of media consumption among American youth. The Kaiser Family Foundation study produced several staggering statistics, presented by Tamar Lewin in the article "If Your Kids Are Awake, They're Probably Online." The main purpose of the article was to expose the enormous amount of time kids spend connected to media and the possible problems related to excessive media consumption. Furthermore, the article is very significant and noteworthy because it was written to make people more aware of the amount of media that kids consume on a daily basis. According to Dr. Rich, a pediatrician at Media and Child Health, "with media use so ubiquitous, it was time to stop debating whether it was good or bad and accept it as part of children's environment," like the air they breathe. , the water they drink and the food they eat, (Lewin, 2010).” Once again, Lewin's article is noteworthy because it contains important perspectives and... at the heart of the article... those who are concerned about supporting the healthy development of children and adolescents. The research study was the key foundation for composing the article, and the article used the findings of the research study to make people publicly aware of media consumption in which kids are involved. From the results of the research study it is evident that the media has become just one of the most influential mediums in the lives of American children. The research and article flow well together, which sheds light on children's media consumption in America. Works Cited Lewin, T. (2010). If your kids are awake, they're probably online.
