Fast food workers do not think about how their negligence in a certain task will negatively affect their lives. A study by microbiologists at Hollins University found that 48 percent of fast food soda dispensers contain coliform bacteria, a bacterium found in feces, and 11 percent contain E Coli due to employees neglecting their role in properly cleaning infected areas. Many other active organisms resistant to two of the eleven antibiotics tested were discovered. Although the microorganisms do not cause significant harm, they promote an uncomfortable condition known as gastritis, an inflammation of the stomach. However, if you have a weak immune system, bacteria may pose a more notable threat. If meals are not prepared correctly, customers can become victims of food poisoning. In March 2011, a study was conducted on the lack of hygiene and sanitation in fast food restaurants. More than fifty percent of workers prepared meals in advance and fifty percent of leftovers were poorly controlled (Kibret).
