Although I wish the poem had included more about the resurrection. It was good that the return of Jesus and the Day of Judgment were talked about, to encourage repentance and the salvation of man in Christ. I wondered if this poet, who must have lived in the High Middle Ages, had actually had a dream in which he imagined a tree telling him about the death and resurrection of Christ and then wrote it down. If that were the case, then I can understand why the poem is not perfectly accurate and a bit confusing, when compared to the Scriptures. Often our thoughts are confused when we dream. The order of events seems to be slightly out of phase. For example, the earth did not shake until the spirit of Jesus left Him. The poem seems to put the tremor before the death of Jesus. However, there is much that is good, true and beautiful in this poem. It celebrates the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross and encourages us to look to Him on the cross, so as not to forget how much He loves us. Furthermore, it encourages us in our faith and in the knowledge that Jesus will return one day, to take us into eternal glory with Him. It was beautiful that the poem ended with the Dreamer enthusiastic about the cross, longing for eternal glory and eager to share the good news with others. This is the way
