This was developed on three systematic reviews, two of them for the Cochrane Collaboration, focused respectively on the effect of handwashing with soap on diarrhoea, on improving water quality and on the disposal of excrement. The risk reduction in this specific study was a 48%, 17%, and 36% reduction in diarrhea reduction, respectively. They recognize that water, hygiene and sanitation bring important benefits to people's health.
