Richard Dawkins, famous British ethologist, biologist and writer, stated: "after sleeping for a hundred million centuries we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet... to work on understanding the universe and how we came to awaken in it” (thinkexist.com) points out that for a moment in Earth's history humans were given the ability to live in a world that other species had previously had the innate ability to do. to consciously create meanings about the world. In order for people to understand the world around them, they must perceive the reality around them. However, perception allows us to understand the world through the selection, organization and interpretation of information it seems simple because it depends on the person's experiences, the outcome of one's perception varies greatly. What this means about communication As Julian Wood (2010) states, “perception shapes how we understand the communication of others and how we communicate. themselves" (P. 68). Therefore, to be an effective communicator, I must learn how myself and others and perceive the world to increase understanding. Sometimes, when I'm completing homework, I turn on the television. This is usual since most of the time I don't look at it but instead focus on my work. However, sometimes something interesting catches my attention from the television. Usually it's an unexpectedly loud noise or the narrator says something out of the ordinary. For example, the most recent Old Spice commercials feature a man saying the strangest things while the scene constantly changes. Generally, this process is considered selection which consists of taking information from the surrounding environment through the middle of the paper......previous experiences. Perception problems occur not only with stereotypes but with every step in perception. When selecting, you might show a selective bias, where you only pay attention to information that fits your beliefs. This can cause them to miss important information. Likewise, in the interpretation phase, a person may have a self-serving bias, which is when someone attributes a good thing to themselves and places the blame for bad things on something else. All of these issues make communication more challenging. Therefore, it is in my best interest to understand the many issues in my perception process to be an effective communicator. As I continue to engage others, I will continually monitor my thoughts to see how well I actively listen and to consider how people interpret their world to ensure misunderstandings remain at a minimum.
