Topic > Causes and effects of bioterrorism - 786

In the “Merrian-Webster” dictionary, bioterrorism is defined as “terrorism involving the use of biological weapons”. In other words, an individual who uses living organisms to harm one or more individuals. These cases of bioterrorism can be intentional or accidental. Countries have used bioterrorism to influence other countries in power. In 2002, after September 1, 2001, when two planes crashed into the Twin Towers in New York and another crashed into the Pentagon in Washington DC. After the terrorist attack, some people at the convention received mail containing anthrax, a chemical that would enter the victim's lungs and cause breathing problems. President George W. Bush then signed the Bioterrorism Act of 2002. The act helped control bioterrorism, but there are still some individuals who oppose the act and still attack other countries, including the United States. Yersinia pestis (plague) is an example of bioterrorism. This disease has caused numerous deaths over the last 2000 years in Europe and Asia. In the 14th century it was called the bubonic plague, better known as the “black death”. The plague has three phases: bubonic, septicemic and pneumonic. In the first few days the bubonic phase occurs, that is, after the individual has been infected. The symptoms that appear are fever, headache, weakness, pain in the upper leg and groin, white tongue, rapid pulse, slurred speech, confusion and tiredness. On the third day, pulsating inflammation of the lymph glands in the armpits, neck and groin occurs, giving rise to "buboes". The plague then develops into septicemic plague which causes bleeding under the skin causing the skin to turn purple, giving the color of a bruise. Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants and mosquito spray that contains DEET. Finally, try to keep your pets away from fleas by using (pet-safe) flea repellents and keep them away from areas that may be affected by them. If a person wanted to wipe out an entire population using the plague, it would become successful since it can be transmitted very easily and a person can die within a few days. If an infected person does not know the symptoms that the plague transmits and thinks that nothing can happen, then leaves it alone, within a few days the person will die. All doctors say that if swelling starts to appear in your neck, armpits or groin area, seek medical attention immediately so that the infection can be treated..
