In the state of Texas, there are already more than four bills in effect regulating the use of text messaging while driving. At the moment, the ban on texting while driving only affects certain groups of drivers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states that texting while driving is prohibited for drivers in school zones, under the age of eighteen, and bus drivers when they have minors on board. Forty-one out of fifty states have laws prohibiting texting while driving for some or all drivers (Insurance Institute for High Way Safety). I totally agree with such laws because even though you may be an expert at texting while driving, texting is still a distraction from the act of driving, which could be the deciding factor in whether the road is safe or less for others who drive. in itself is a dangerous act made even more dangerous by the use of portable electronic devices.
