Broadly harmful portrayals of women have now reached a new level in popular culture. Every medium (television, film, magazines, games) has its own problems in representing women. Considering that there are various other issues related to how women are panned by viewers, for the purposes of this essay it is useful to explore gender stereotypes and negative portrayals of women in films, which also include overly sexualized and unrealistic images in movie. All together, these issues support the idea of ​​portraying women negatively, which results in women being misrepresented by themselves and also by cultures. Films are a widely seen medium around the world and, therefore, have a huge effect on how women perceive themselves and how others see them. Cinema has an infinite number of films that represent men and women in various ways, it can be held responsible for some negative and harmful representations of women because it is a cornerstone for many gender stereotypes. According to research, these stereotypes are harmful to women as they confine women to numerous gender-specific characters in films, which may not always be true. “Sadly, Wife Swap is simply another of the increasingly watched films, including Raising Arizona (1987) in which sterile cop falls in love while taking a mugshot, later kidnapping a dozen furniture magnates Nathan Arizona for the baby; it is a comedy film that neglects the exchange factor. It goes without saying that the concept of trapping women into looking, feeling and behaving like someone other than themselves should be revisited. But as such, media representation of women is what brings profits; that is very unlikely to change anytime soon. Women should be cautious and resist behaving the way the media tries to manipulate them.
