According to Robert Henley, professor of psychology at the University of Nebraska, in his article 'A Review of Divorce: Causes and Consequences' states that “having children in the family influences the decision divorce” (Henley p.445). Children require a parent's undivided attention; they constantly want to be looked after and more often than not this could be stressful for the mother or father. It usually puts a strain on parents who didn't expect to have children. When one of the parents is overwhelmed with these new responsibilities, the only option they have is to free themselves from these obligations and the only way is to use divorce. In his article he also mentions other factors commonly known to influence divorce. One, in particular, is "a personality prone to divorce" (Henley p.145), it is easily arguable that a couple with this personality does not have the personality required for a marriage and the likelihood of this marriage lasting is very high.
