Social workers use a spiritual biopsychosocial assessment (BPSS) to gain a holistic view of the client. By using a BPSS, the doctor can see the outcome of how each interaction is integrated, which can help him in identifying risk and protective factors. In this case, the following will show all of Devon's strengths and what he will continue to need to strengthen those protective factors or mitigate risk. Biological Strengths and NeedsDevon appears to have some interpersonal skills despite his methodical nagging of his younger brother. He displays significant strength as he is overly protective of his younger brother and would never go out of his way to harm him. However, Devon has deliberately gone out of his way to annoy his brother who has a severe hearing problem. Devon could use some additional skills in interacting with his brother and using coping skills when he feels the need to deliberately annoy or disturb his brother. Devon was alert and oriented during the assessment and became irritated by the questions. There was no reporting of developmental milestones being reached. Further reporting is needed on any biological factors that may have influenced Devon's diagnosis. Additionally, there were no reported familial cases of mental health or behavioral problems. Psychological Strengths and Needs Devon appears to have appropriate cognitive development. His school report indicates that he has never failed a lesson. One of Devon's strengths is that he seeks tutoring for his reading comprehension issues to mitigate the chances of failing. No cognitive delays were reported. Devon demonstrates strong abilities to understand class material. There is a f... middle of paper... imperative to know how Devon was doing during his developmental years in school. Did he exhibit similar behavior as a child while at school and was it considered normative age behavior? This information would have been obtained from previous teachers who taught Devon. Finally, how did Devon deal with his parents' separation? It would be interesting to see if these behaviors were amplified when the separation occurred. Devon and his brother currently stay with their mother during the week and with their father on weekends, the back and forth between families can cause a serious stressor for Devon. There may be a difference in parenting styles and continuity is not aligned, which could be frustrating for a child who may not understand why their parents are no longer together. Devon would personally report this fact to this doctor during individual follow-up sessions.
