Yet Britain still tried to keep them under its power. One day, the Royal Crown begins to run out of funds for the war. They needed money to support their battle efforts. The solution they found was to raise taxes on the colonists ("Causes of the American Revolution"). The people of the colonies were outraged. Why? Except the law that increased taxes on tea. Many now know what follows, the Boston Tea Party. This was a raid on three British ships in Boston Harbor on December 16, 1773. Boston colonists dressed up as Indians and threw huge quantities of tea into the harbor in protest of high taxation. This was one of the first large-scale revolutionary acts.
