That's a ratio of eight to one; yet how many stories do we hear in which the subject was unarmed? But what is interesting is what the police define as unarmed. In police reports, the word unarmed was used only for those who were not carrying a deadly weapon or any type of toy weapon or vehicle. What is not included in this category is any attempt to resist arrest. Looking through the approximately ninety stories of unarmed suspects, it appears that the vast majority were attempting to run away, snatch the officer's gun, or escape from the patrol car. So now let's plug these numbers into a real case. New York City has a population of approximately eight and a half million people. Although only 23% of their population is African American, they account for over 70% of all total crimes. How can a community expect help in a situation like this from a group of people, like law enforcement, where every move they make that the community doesn't approve of will be shown as a racist act in the eyes of the citizens?
