Most high school students think they are ready for college until they start. In high school you have teachers who make you do your homework and parents who make you study. In college comes freedom. Most first-year college students are given this freedom for the first time and are unable to handle it. They are used to teachers reminding them of upcoming assignments due and exams needed to study. In college you are responsible for getting your work done. Your professor will talk to you at the beginning of the semester about homework but will not continue to remind you of it. This is your job and most responsible and incoming freshmen are not prepared for that responsibility. Additionally, most freshmen have rules at home that they have to follow, such as what time they have to be home on school nights and that they have to do their homework before leaving. But in college you don't have your parents there to make you do what you need to do. Due to a lack of preparation for college, most freshmen fail their classes and drop out of college. They feel like it's too difficult for them, but that's only because they're unprepared.
