“The Old Man and the Storm,” was a documentary that forces the viewer to see the reality of the situation and the devastation brought by Hurricane Katrina. June Cross and June Elliot, represented by the company Frontline, produced the video. When Hurricane Katrina and subsequent Storm Rita passed through Louisiana and particularly New Orleans, they had a devastating and lasting impact on residents. Cross went to New Orleans and met the man who inspired the documentary. After visiting the city, Cross meets Herbert Gettridge, a man adamant about staying in New Orleans and repairing his house, no matter the cost. The story tells the story of residents trying to save what they had left after the storm. They found that insurance companiesThe main purpose of the video is to inform viewers about the difficulties that the citizens of New Orleans faced after Hurricane Katrina. They connect the overall difficulty the community faced by focusing primarily on Herbert Gettridge and thus allowing the audience to create a connection with him. The primary audience is adults interested not only in Hurricane Katrina, but also in the subsequent Storm Rita and the damage caused by the two storms. This goes into a more personal account of the hurricane told through people who lived in New Orleans. The video shows the difficulties citizens faced in rebuilding not only their homes, but also their lives. Both reflective and informative are descriptions that could be used to describe tone. The story shows the emotional trauma the citizens go through with the memories they share of the event. The only information I had before watching the video was knowing that Katrina was a bad storm that was hard on the citizens who lived there. Seeing how serious the situation the citizens of New Orleans were dealing with was completely new information that no one ever talks about. Every time people mention Katrina they talk about how violent the storm was but they never realize the effects it had on the residents of that city, nor do they know about Hurricane Rita. The average citizen probably doesn't realize that the victims of those storms are still rebuilding, ten years later. I'm happy that a story is being made about the people of New Orleans and giving them a voice to be heard. It's good that "The Old Man and the Storm" provides a documented account that details the difficulties of having to rebuild your entire life when it is destroyed in a matter of moments. The only problem I had watching "The Old Man and the Storm" was how much they skipped around with the mini-stories and therefore didn't give enough
