I found that the first few days I was so used to going to the gas station and getting a cup of coffee or a bottle of tea that I would just stop there without thinking. I also realized that making coffee was something my kids enjoyed, so the first couple of days they kept making a cup of coffee and the smell made me want a cup, but I refrained from getting one . The same feelings ran through my mind when I was at work because most of my coworkers drink coffee all day. Change in my thinking towards addiction This definitely changed my thought process about addiction, I knew that addiction is not always a matter of choice, but going through this brought out new perspectives. I can understand in some ways how difficult it is to change behavior because it's not always as simple as choosing not to use a substance. You may need to change how you interact, who you interact with. I can also see how it becomes difficult to not have relapses as I go through the thought process of how I could go back to caffeine once I do this and not get to the point I was in before I started this
