The Power of Love and RelationshipsPSY 301 Social PsychologyInstructor: Dana DillardFrancine MorenoDecember 16, 2013When I was a young girl in elementary school I developed a friendship with a girl who lived a isolated from Me. We began to visit each other's homes every day. Sleeping together, riding the bus together, and even sitting together during lunch. We developed a friendship that couldn't be broken. It didn't matter that I was African American and she was Caucasian, her entire family made me feel like I was one of them. Even though I didn't know much about anything and didn't really know what family meant, I learned it from his family. He taught me to line dance and I learned to love his strange, peaceful, love-filled music called country music. He had the ability to make you feel happy when you were down. We bonded and became best friends, she was the only friend I had and I remember when her other friends came to visit me I would get a little jealous because I thought they would take her away from me and I would be alone again , so I became distant. She was such a great friend and somehow knew what was bothering me without me having to say anything, so she told me that it shouldn't worry us, we'll always be friends and it's okay to have more than one best friend. She was so wise beyond her years I thought to myself. As I grew up, my mother, siblings and I moved out of town and I lost the connection with her, but with the rise of technology like Facebook we reconnected. I think attraction played a big role in us becoming friends. Our friendship started on the school bus on the way home from school. A couple of bullies started picking on her because of her freckles and her... middle of paper ......or expression of wants and needs. Passion is not necessarily stable in relationships, it cannot be controlled, but you can feel how much you feel for someone. The final component is the decision/commitment which can be a short-term commitment, the decision to love a particular person or a long-term commitment which is the decision to be with someone for the long term. We control the amount of commitment we have in a relationship, which is important in a long-term relationship (Feenstra, 2011). In short, there are several factors to consider in love and relationship. Now we know that it all starts with all the pull factors. We build bonds from these factors which can eventually turn into love and relationships. It doesn't hurt to sincerely show care and interest in a stranger because that stranger may one day become a friend.
