It's time for a change In today's modern society, technology is inevitable. For anyone in the declining phase of middle age, it's not hard to remember when electronic communication was a landline in every home. Two if money wasn't an issue. But that generation also experienced the adrenaline rush of alarm when they realized their cell phone wasn't with them. In G. Anthony Gorry's “Empathy in the Virtual World,” his view is pessimistic that society will avoid being sucked into the numbness of the black hole of cyberspace. of MIT, is considered “a pre-eminent authority” on the effects of technology on the population, issues a warning about “what… technology could do to us” (372). What Gorry fears most is “…we will pay for our entry into the magical garden of cyberspace with a loss of empathy…” (373). Gorry seems to be a glass-half-empty kind of guy, but if we consider what his world is like, it will be easier to empathize with his perspective.
