Childhood obesity is a serious problem among American children. Some doctors even call childhood obesity an epidemic due to the large percentage of children diagnosed as overweight or obese each year. “According to DASH, 16 to 33 percent of American children are declared obese each year.” (Childhood obesity) Only a small percentage, about 1%, of children are obese due to physical or health problems; however, such a serious condition, such as obesity, could have been prevented. With careful monitoring and choosing a healthier lifestyle there would be no reason to have such a high obesity rate in the United States (Caryn). Unfortunately, these children who are now considered obese may be facing serious health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes and some types of cancer. All of these diseases have been linked to obesity through research. These children never asked for this to happen to them; however, it happened, and now they will live their entire lives as obese, or they will be forced to reverse what has already been done (childhood obesity). Parents have always known about obesity and the effects obesity has on people. While parents have been aware of this preventable disease, they are only now becoming more aware of what is happening to their children. Now they want to start pointing fingers as to why these children are becoming obese; no one wants to take the blame for putting these young lives at risk. “Greenbalt states in his article that obesity is becoming an epidemic and that there are approximately 300,000 children each year who die because they are overweight… half of the document… ease of control and prevention: WWW.cdc .gov /HealthyYouth/obesity Services:Childhood obesity in America.
