As of 2012, more than half of all American adults have one or more chronic health conditions such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes and stroke. (CDC,2015). Considering that the costs of managing these preventable diseases amount to nearly $300 billion per year (CDC, 2015), using prevention as an intervention is undoubtedly a more fiscal and proactive approach. One way to help Americans focus more on self-care and well-being is the role of the “Nurse Health Coach,” which was conceptualized using Neuman's systems model along with many other theorists. According to INCA, the Nurse Health Coach is a community-based holistic health and wellness nurse who works with clients to prevent chronic disease through education and behavioral modifications. The flexibility of the nursing profession places nurses in a privileged position to move from the role of passive educator, of "operator and repairer", to that of coach who works together with the system to create specific, achievable, client-centered objectives, on which can build in the future. the future. Coaching will undoubtedly provide leadership opportunities for nurses to transform healthcare.
