I agree with Watson's argument that cloning is an inevitable event and that it is "the basis of many genetic diseases and reveals the biochemistry of disease" (Watson p.5) . For this reason, human cloning should not surprise us; However, it is necessary to involve the public as they are directly involved. To allow people to decide on the issue of cloning, scientists are responsible for educating society about cloning, allowing people to decide whether restrictions will be placed on certain scientific research that affects social ethics. Therefore, the informed society can decide without taking into account any kind of unreliable data or distorted information that could slow down the progress of cloning. Ultimately, society has a choice. Consideration of ethics in science has been present throughout history. Certainly after World War II (with the existence of atomic weapons), several developed countries concentrated and invested fortunes in high-tech research because these countries wanted to be influential in international politics. “Science and technology have always been important and driven by war” (NIEH 2012). Most countries want to be the sphere of influence and the best way to make an impact is through science. Consequently, the practice of science inevitably brings with it ethical questions. In the 1960s, the United States established the “Health and Human Services (HHS)) to protect the rights and well-being of human research subjects and established ethical standards for the conduct of research” (NIEH 2012). With this in mind, scientists are responsible for educating the public to avoid violating ethical standards during cloning research. Scientists are responsible for educating society that allows… middle of paper… and responsible for educating society about cloning, thus allowing people to set policies on certain scientific research that impacts social ethics. Communicating: “A general declaration of the worldwide illegality of human cloning could be the result of a serious effort to ask the world in which direction it wishes to move (p. 6). People are the last and most important voice and must be involved in everything that directly affects them. Society and scientists need to work together to “focus on events that are unlikely to become reality within the next decade or two (p.3),” so we will be ready to handle any unusual and innovative scientific questions. The way scientists present complex scientific information will influence people's reaction. Basically, it's not what you sell to the customer but how you sell it that gives you positive results.
