Equality has a wide spectrum in the world. What do equality and freedom really mean? And is America really the same? We will explore some of the most famous people who set the standard for being called equal. Several years ago many people across the country were fighting to call themselves free, now what do we have to show for that. The new generations coming into the world are becoming lazy and not learning what it really means to be free and equal. America has become a free country, but there are still injustices here and in the uprising. Did Dr. King really make a change? Has Emmett managed to convince us to listen and open our minds? Or was it Abraham who tried to get people to listen to his speech about freedom? All of these men did something to help change the way segregationist and unjust laws were back then. But what can be done to ensure that these men continue to be the reason we call ourselves free? The people of today and tomorrow must do better because yes, a lot has changed, but that doesn't mean it will stay that way. I felt that history repeats itself and if that is true, then future generations will have to get on board and continue to fight for equality and freedom. I don't think America is truly free, nor are the American people settling just because they know that this freedom may be the best we can achieve. Sometimes settling is not the right thing to do, if we are not satisfied with the situation we find ourselves in we should change it. As Obama said, I know my country has not perfected itself. And at times we have struggled to keep the promise of freedom and equality for all our people. We have made our share of mistakes and there are times when our actions around the world have not lived up to our best intentions… middle of paper… I will try to figure that out myself. Lincoln dedicated his speech to the dead because they died in vain and he wanted them to be happy to see an equal country. Equality today is very different than in Lincoln's time and has come a long way, but there is still a long way to go. To conclude, we had to struggle quite a bit to get America to where it is now. In some ways we are a free country because of what these three men sacrificed, but we won't continue that way if we don't keep fighting for more. We need to set an example for the new generation coming up and we need to let people know that the work of our ancestors and people like Dr. King, Emmett and Abraham didn't work at all. The day will come when history may repeat itself, but we must be prepared and ready so that when that happens we will not let our future return to the same as our past.
