In early childhood education, the term ICT could include computer hardware and software, digital cameras and camcorders, the Internet, telecommunications tools, and many other devices. There are many reasons why ICT is particularly important during the early years of education, some of these include: It is not uncommon to walk into a nursery and see children taking photographs independently of each other using a digital camera. Today's children grow up in a world where technology is so pervasive that it is the norm for them. For this reason it is all too easy to deny that we have a responsibility to teach children ICT because they "know more than us" or because "they will learn to use it anyway". Angela McFarlane, in a presentation at the 2009 Naace Conference, challenged this myth of the “digital native”. He reported that, although a third of the children in his study were indeed engaged with technology, a significant percentage were not involved at all, and that the rest of the children did not really know how to use the technology, even though it seemed like they did! We must be clear, therefore, that we must teach our children about technology so that everyone can interact with it
