Antigone only wanted her brother to be respected and given a good life in the afterlife. He believed that his moral responsibilities outweigh the consequences that might arise from his actions. King Creon saw things differently than Antigone. He believed that he should be very strict with people he considered traitors who defied his rules. He believed that to be a good ruler he must enforce the rules and impose just punishments to maintain the respect of his subjects. Creon thought that having strong authority and leadership were more important than showing understanding and compassion. These two ideas clash and both characters have difficulty seeing the other's point of view. I believe that to resolve this dilemma involving these different ideas, King Creon should have listened to other points of view besides his own. Antigone had told him that she believed what he did was morally correct in her eyes. The two should have respected each other's points of view and agreed on a punishment that would have been fairer. Creon should have also listened to his son's judgment instead of just his own. Her son wanted Antigone to be respected and treated more fairly. King Creon was so blinded by his own power and ideas that he forgot how to listen to others and appreciate outside opinions. If he had listened to other ideas, all this tragedy
