Topic > Disadvantages of Algae - 1078

Since biofuel is a renewable resource, it is easily available for high demands. Demand for oil is increasing rapidly, but the availability of fossil fuels is decreasing. As global warming increases, the need to reduce the use of fossil fuels and the release of greenhouse gases has become more evident. Algal biofuel is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 78%. The production process of algal biofuels is also cleaner and safer for the environment. To produce crude oil requires many toxic chemicals to make it safe for use in vehicles. Algal biofuel is made primarily of lipids and oils produced by algae and does not require the same harmful chemicals used in the process as crude oil. Algal biofuels will increase fuel economy, allowing vehicles to get more miles per gallon. It will also reduce the need for foreign oil, providing countries with the means to save billions of dollars from foreign purchases
