As global warming increases, the need to reduce the use of fossil fuels and the release of greenhouse gases has become more evident. Algal biofuel is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 78%. The production process of algal biofuels is also cleaner and safer for the environment. To produce crude oil requires many toxic chemicals to make it safe for use in vehicles. Algal biofuel is made primarily of lipids and oils produced by algae and does not require the same harmful chemicals used in the process as crude oil. Algal biofuels will increase fuel economy, allowing vehicles to get more miles per gallon.
