The tragedy of the commons has been used to explain how human interference has had negative consequences for the natural environment. Those who maintain resources based on community control seem to care much more about who else uses them. People are worried about how much of the resource they will benefit from and how much they will be able to have, which makes them more worried about the possibility of someone else overusing the limited resource (diamond, et al, 2007). One person will not want another person to have open and uncontrolled access to the same resource they want. One of the main causes of the "Tragedy" is due to the lack of information. Many people using the common resource may not know where it originally came from and assume it is limitless. Another cause is that people may fear that the shared resource will be overused and may run out, leaving everyone fearful followed by everyone trying to get what may be left, resulting in even more harm. Fossil fuels are a non-renewable energy source, which include oil, coal and natural gas (Ecomi, 2008). When all of Earth's fossil fuels are exhausted, they will no longer be able to be replaced. They are produced by decomposed plants and animals that date back more than six hundred million years (Bloch, 2009). Currently, fossil fuels are being used up very rapidly. Nearly every function of modern life depends on the use of fossil fuels. Without it, the world would have many repairs. People don't realize how much they are wasting and how much damage they are really causing to the atmosphere and what it could do to us in the future. It is a huge source of energy, and nearly fifty percent of US power plants use coal as the primary source of... middle of paper......6) Tragedy of the Commons .
