By containing even the slightest hint of "magic" in a fabulist literary work, the author is able to tell the story in a very real setting and yet be able to putting a twist on events, subjects or objects with 'magic' to express their message. Therefore, an author like Ray Bradbury is able to use technology within the home environment as the sole protagonist (albeit through various elements of technology). With Cheever's The Enormous Radio, the radio gives him the chance to express the secrets and stories of the other characters in the story without having to explicitly describe them or present them as characters the way he does with Westcott's. Additionally, radio is a more direct way in which to introduce minor characters which also saves Cheever from having to construct a complete story behind each character and allows him to give the reader the smallest glimpse of the character that contains everything the reader will want . never (and never necessary)
