What makes a good leader? Depends. Most organizations look for people who have something to offer when looking at credentials or a great interview, but looks can be deceiving: a good manager necessarily means a good leader I don't think so. Leadership is a topic that will need to be addressed by every organization. In my opinion no organization will be able to thrive without good leadership. Even though there are no two leaders, there are many leadership styles and as leaders we must have experience and time to grow and eventually we will discover what kind of leader we are. I work in a school system where I am a parent liaison and work with parents. Even though I am not their boss, I have a great influence on them, I believe I have the power of an expert, because I know my job very well and I can answer any question they may have at any time. I also have the power to assist them in appointing doctors, I can stop prosecutions coming from the school system, and by speaking with the prosecutor and police department to stop any warrants that may be issued, I can teach parents parenting skills because I am a certified educator. Even though I'm not a teacher, I've been in my current position for eleven years and when people hear that they automatically assume I know what I'm doing and trust that. Parents have so much faith in my experience and the knowledge I have in my work that they don't question anything I tell them. They trust and believe. Just as I believe my principal has the power of an expert, all of us on staff trust and believe her because she has done her… middle of the paper… changed our view. Our vision for the statement is to Strive for Excellence and considering that we are an at-risk school district I believe that this statement corresponds to the goals we would like to achieve. Our school has improved in all areas of education since our new superintendent is all about education for our children and staff. Yes, it has successful guild lines that are committed to providing education, training, life skills and development of the minds of our growing children. The school system has recently developed a goal for our support staff to also educate ourselves, which is one of the reasons why I take this course today. Leaders and managers seem to have a lot in common. Being a good manager does not automatically make you a good leader, however, if you can combine the two, you can become a great manager/leader.
