Apollo 13 suffers serious malfunctions that end up changing the mission from the moon landing to a simple attempt to return to Earth with all the crew still alive. This film illustrates how leaders can develop new vision and values and how the team can come together and collaborate in high-stress situations. Their vision changes from landing astronauts on the moon to simply returning astronauts to earth safely when an unexpected explosion occurs in the service module. Even under ridiculous pressure, the crew was able to communicate effectively and use their decision-making skills to help solve the problem effectively. Apollo 13 is all about how team efforts and leadership skills come together to overcome what they thought would be a horrible ending. Gene Kranz, flight director and mission control team leader, developed a set of values; discipline, morale, tenacity, competence, commitment and teamwork to deal with the situation. This set of values helped build the chemistry that kept them together throughout all the different hardships they faced and ultimately helped them achieve success. For every seemingly impossible situation, Mr. Kranz brings new vibrancy and vision to the team with his always response "we have to find a way to make it work." His leadership focuses on path goal theory. During his meetings trying to develop a reentry plan, he was only concerned with making sure they were taking the right steps to bring the astronauts back safely. He explains to his colleagues what the proposals are, evaluates new ideas and is very supportive of everyone's ideas. He clarifies the main objective and uses his relationship with everyone...... middle of paper...... do well and finish safely. Marilyn shows personal integrity when she demands to know what is going on with the mission after seeing the news on TV. She shows self-confidence when she calls and demands to know what's going on and doesn't hang up until she gets answers. Throughout the entire situation he manages to resist stress, showing his emotional maturity. Gene Kranz and Jim Lovell are the main people who show how a leader is able to influence and guide the team when an unexpected situation occurs. When dealing with problems, conflicts and achieving goals, making sure staff are focused is very important. Regardless of the pressure or conflict they were dealing with, they were able to make decisions quickly and effectively. Leadership and team structure were the main reasons behind the incredible work of the ground team.
