I always knew I loved special education students. My daughter was born three months early and weighed less than a kilo. Having a micro-preemie daughter, I felt it was my obligation as a mother to read and try to understand how she grows and develops. My life has been spent among doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and home teachers. I was surrounded by people who loved studying child development. Every one of those people who saw my daughter had an impact on my life. The care and compassion they showed for me and the things they taught me like cognitive delays and critical periods had an impact on me. At my daughter's IEP meetings there were several people in the room and they all had different ideas about how to tech her. The collaboration of so many adults and the collective theories they all had was amazing. I knew that one day I wanted to help others in my shoes. I hope to gain the knowledge to be a better parent and role model for other parents with special issues
