Juvenile centers often have the goal of helping transform the young offender into a better person in society. Prisons for adults are intended to keep them out of society. McCrea (2008) is a strong advocate of rehabilitation rather than criminalization. The idea of rehabilitation is at the heart of juvenile centers, which is why adolescent delinquents should be incarcerated there. Youth in designated settings are more likely to be placed in educational programs (Bechtold & Cauffman, 2014). Inmates are more likely to attend educational programs in juvenile centers, these facilities are also better prepared to handle the educational requirements of a young adult (Bechtold & Cauffman, 2014). Jeffrey Fagan (2008) argues that information states that youth centers had better educational programs. In addition to better programs, staff members are more caring and make great efforts to keep inmates in contact with family and anyone who can be a positive influence upon release (Fagan, 2008). As previously stated, teenagers are the most influential people on the planet. Having bad role models in their life may have been a factor that led the young criminal to make his initial mistakes. If there is going to be a difference in the future for the offender, it will come from where he is incarcerated. If a delinquent is detained in a juvenile center he will have positive influences.
