In the final scene of the play, Hamlet's final attempt to kill Claudius is successful. In the midst of the fight Hamlet takes Laertes' sword and stabs him with his own poisoned sword during the duel. Laertes tells everyone that Claudius is responsible for the poisoned drinks and Hamlet for the swords so he gains all his courage and without hesitation he finally kills Claudius by stabbing Claudius with the poisoned sword and forcing him to drink the poisoned wine. In his last attempt Hamlet showed no signs of having second thoughts and in that moment he knew exactly what he had to do, to avenge not only his father but now also his mother, in scene 5 act 2 Gertrude drank from one of the poisoned drinks. accidentally and ends up dying tragically in front of him
