Over 500 years ago Machiavelli wrote one of his most influential books The Prince, which continues to be discussed and interpreted to this day. Machiavelli's The Prince identifies the key characteristics required of the leaders of certain countries to sustain their power, with each mode of ascension requiring different strategies to maintain. Therefore, we must be aware that some of the examples he uses may be well written and may be supported by modern evidence, but it is evident that the majority of this book can be considered obsolete. Cesare Borgia was a contemporary of Machiavelli Principe. In the seventh chapter of The Prince, Machiavelli states that many aspects of Borgia's political career are discussed. He is the very embodiment of the ingenuity, effectiveness, and virility that define Machiavelli's concept of political virtuosity. After Borgia conquered Romagna, he is now charged with reordering the state. Machiavelli wonders how a prince, who has just conquered a state, can earn the obedience of the people if they are characterized by a human nature governed by fickleness, greed, etc. Well Borgia did so; brought peace and obedience, which set up a cruel and efficient minister. This was a brilliant example shown by Machiavelli because Borgia realized that his authority could be excessive, as he feared that he could become repugnant. Having said this, he asked one of the ministers to place a wooden block and a blood-stained knife next to him. This wicked and cruel act left the people surprised and satisfied. The genius behind this example, in the eyes of Machiavelli and many others, was that Borgia managed to not only exercise power, but to... means of paper... some of the concepts of Machiavelli's The Prince obsolete. The advice offered by the book, although no more useful to us today than in the past, cannot be denied regarding Machiavelli's rules working. However, we must realize that as long as there is mystery about how to win a fight by being the one who throws the first punch or by fighting dirty, it is the issue of playing by the rules that makes it difficult to win. Furthermore, we can see that once all was said and done, a huge transitional change has occurred in politics, economics and peace between countries. Machiavelli wrote this book during the Renaissance, although The Prince offers significant insight into specific situations and a look at the concepts of war from a different perspective, a modern scholar cannot use it to show examples bestowed upon us in the 21st century. century.
