DescriptionDescribe what you are recording about. Identify whether it was a newspaper article or a book chapter; practical observation; theory taught; conference or otherwise. In an interview with Peter who works as a youth worker in the youth ministry of his church. (Peter asked that he and his youth club remain anonymous as he expressed his personal thoughts and feelings) I asked Peter as a youth worker if he and his church would be a welcoming place for a young person who identifies as lesbian, gay , bisexual or transgender. (I will use the abbreviation for LGB&T in this journal) Peter said that homosexuality goes against his personal values and beliefs and also against the beliefs of his church. That his church preaches that homosexuality is a sin, that God created Adam and Eve, and that sexual experience should be between a man and a woman. orientation would be contradictory to his faith and his teaching of the Church. He said that if a young person chooses to be LGBT it means they have also chosen to turn their back on Christianity and that a faith-based youth environment was not the right place for them. Understanding What was the main message? What I understood was said by the author; teacher; practitioner etc… What argument was used to support their position? The main message I received from Peter was that his personal values and beliefs were more important than the values and principles of his professional youth work. Selecting which young people to work with and which will be welcomed into its youth context. That he personally felt that faith-based youth work was not the right environment for young people identifying… middle of paper… beliefs or identities? Most of us will be baptized, baptized, or otherwise welcomed into the church as children and raised in our family's religious beliefs. So our religious/faith identity will come first and our sexual orientation identity in many of us will not come into play until we are teenagers. The effect on the identity of someone being fired or taken away from them can be devastating to the person or your identity regarding faith being rejected and taken away from you. Why do people label you as one identity? Works CitedBanks, S. 1999. Ethical Issues in Youth Work. Routledge: LondonSapin, K. 2013. Essential skills for youth work. 2nd edition.
